Course Scope

This course module aims to improve written and spoken communication skills for engineering students. The module is offered in the first semester and is continued in the second semester (HS7416 Technical writing-II). The main emphasis in the first semester is on improving students' English language and helping them to prepare and present detailed proposal documents for their BSc projects.

Objectives

  • Teaching how to write "properly" in English
  • Teaching group communications skills, including presentation skills
  • Teaching timing management and project planning

  • Word processing (1 lecture)

Course Work

Project groups are required to present and submit BSc proposal document. The presentataion and the document will be refereed by another group.

  • Justin Zobel. Writing for Computer Science. Singapore: Springer, 1997. (Research oriented. Lots of examples describing article structures)
  • Michael H. Markel, Technical writing: Situations and Strategies. St. Martin's Press, Inc., 1992. (Reference material about reports structures)
