The department also actively participates in research activities in subjects that are relevant to the current interests of local industries.

The department is organizing an international conference in “Production Engineering design and control, PEDAC once every four years. Since 1980, PEDAC has been one of the important and interesting conventions in the field. It attracts scholars, researchers, and industrialists to exchange experiences and present their research findings.

PEDAC’ 2001 aimed to provide an up-to-date state of the art in the area of production and industrial engineering, Design and Control with special emphasis on modern and transfer of technologies.

The conference is a forum for presentation and critical discussion of the most recent achievements, research results and applications carried out at universities, research institutions, and industry.

PEDAC is an enormous opportunity for international exchange of technical knowledge and views as well as strengthening the links between academic institutions and industry on the national and international levels.

In PEDAC’ 2001, the scientific committee had carefully selected out of 330 received papers, 155 technical papers and 23 keynotes for presentation in 28 sessions.

PEDAC’2001 presented in its twenty-eight sessions technical papers and keynote lectures in metal forming, engineering materials and composites, robotics, mechanical design, vibrations analysis, metrology, industrial engineering, conventional and non-conventional metal cutting, quality control, and total quality management.

Our faculty members of the production engineering department are interested in many research topics in the fields of : industrial engineering, production scheduling, expert system engineering, maintenance management systems, design and optimization of materials, fatigue failure analysis of engineering materials, industrial applications of robots, computer aided process planning, geometrical errors and tolerances control of machine tools, laser metrology, computer aided design and manufacture, and mechanical fault diagnosis.
